Organdy vs Organdie vs Organza

Organdy, Organdie, Organza…what’s the deal? Are they the same? How can I know the difference? This article will answer all of the above, lets just dive straight in.

Straight away we can tell you that Organdy and Organdie are the same thing, its just 2 different spellings for the same fabric. In this article we will refer to both as Organdy as this is the more common way to spell the fabric.

So moving on to Organza. Whilst Organdy and Organza widely have the same uses, Organdy and Organza are in fact different fabrics. The difference is in the fibres. Organdy is made from cotton and Organza is made from silk or synthetic fibres.

Deciding weather to use Organdy or Organza is down to the type of fibres you want to use, whether your project needs to use a natural cotton fabric or a man made synthetic fabric. Both fabrics will give the same sheer effect.
